Reno – Garage 2021-2022

Back in 2013, or thereabouts, I noticed some rot in the exterior trim boards outside the back right corner of the garage, right at the back of The Cadillac of Outdoor Showers. After removing some of the trim it became apparent that more than the trim had rotted. As I dug deeper into the corner I found that the entire structure in that corner had rotted out due to water getting in behind the shingles right where the second floor joined the first floor. The building sat like this for the next few years.

My builder (at the time) came over to take a look at how we might get this repaired and said something like, “Joe, if I wasn’t your friend I would just walk away and not come back.” He said the large 8′ x 22′ wrap around, second floor deck would have to be disconnected from the house to make repairs to the framing and then reattached. There would also need to be repairs to other places where the water damage had migrated. It was soon thereafter that I decided to renovate the garage. I wanted new windows both downstairs and up, some new plumbing, and new siding on both levels on the west and south sides of the garage.

Due to some family and health issues my builder employed Skyline Homes to do all the work. You can see all of that in the gallery below.
